ペルー生まれのアメリカの作家・人類学者であるカルロス・カスタネダの著書『イクストランへの旅――ドン・ファンの教え』（Journey to Ixtlan, 1972年）の文脈における「盟友」は、日本を代表する漫画家の一人、荒木飛呂彦氏の「ジョジョの奇妙な冒険」に登場するスタンドの概念にとてもよく似ていると感じていました。
それは、友情で結ばれた友というよりは「力」そのものの象徴であり、扱うには極めて高い自制心とエネルギー（個人の力）が必要とされる存在。
つまり、「異次元に住む意識あるエネルギー体であり、呪術師が自分の力を拡大するために命がけで従属させるパートナー」ということに繋がっていました。

I have always felt that the concept of “Ally” (MEiYOU) within the context of Journey to Ixtlan (1972) by Peruvian-born American author and anthropologist Carlos Castaneda bears a striking resemblance to the “Stand” (スタンド) featured in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure by Hirohiko Araki, one of Japan’s most iconic manga artists. Rather than a friend bound by conventional camaraderie, it is a manifestation of pure “power”—an entity requiring immense self-control and personal energy to wield.
In essence, it connects to the idea of a “conscious energy being from another dimension; a partner that a sorcerer risks their very life to subjugate in order to expand their own power.”
